How to build a good relationship with your boss. 6 practical tips by Mond Management

1. No flirting!

Don’t try to seduce your boss! Be highly professional! You must establish a reputation as a skilled specialist and a reliable employee. Certainly, spreading positive vibes and joking when appropriate is highly recommended, but don't confuse it with flirting!

2. Keep a notebook!

Always take a notebook or a notepad whenever you have a meeting with your boss in order not to miss a single task. Write down insights, ideas and other relevant details. Besides, you can have all the necessary information in your notebook and whenever your boss asks you for some data you can have a look at your notes and give a swift response to the question.

Entering the office of your boss or attending meetings well-prepared (with a notebook, a pen, up-to-date information at hand) will definitely make a positive impression on everyone.

3. Talk business over coffee

Take a cup of coffee to your boss and discuss problems in private. Create a relaxing and calming environment by discussing business matters over a cup of coffee or tea. Of course, you should ask his permission prior to entering his office with cups! Ask him what he likes and whether he would mind discussing business matters over coffee the next day.

Make a list of questions beforehand in order not to disturb your boss a few times a day. Get all the answers to your doubts and assignments at a time.

4. Look good  - feel good!

Don’t forget to look good and stylish! Don’t be sexy, otherwise, you will gain a bad reputation and a lot of enviers. Be neat and tidy instead, adhere to the business code. You must look aesthetically pleasing so as to be able to endear yourself to your boss and coworkers.

5. Be diplomatic, never argue the toss!

Forget about such expression as “yes, but…”. If you disagree, share your viewpoint in a delicate way. Support your boss in public, never contradict. Your boss must know that you are the one whom he can always count on.

6. Be a people person

You must know your coworkers very well, both their skills and personalities, in order to share your objective opinion who is who and to be able to give a valuable piece of advice to your boss. You must become his/her ears and eyes, but not a spy! You must be loved and respected by your colleagues so as to be an intermediary between your boss and the staff.

The above-mentioned tips are proved to be effective. Follow them and step-by-step you will gain your desired results.

Good luck!
